Character Guidelines

Beast Picture In order to play at Mutatis Mutandis you need to apply for a character that will fit into the game world. What follows describes the different types of characters that you can play -- feature characters, non-feature (powered) characters, and human (non-powered, non-feature) characters.

Though we will not out of hand discount an application if it includes something to do with dimensional travel, temporal travel or manipulation, magic, furries or were-creatures, teleporters, persons with multiple powers, high powered characters, anything over done or lacking uniqueness, be advised that these applications will be viewed critically.

Feature characters are encouraged. This is an X-Mux and we made it an X-MUX cuz we have a soft spot for certain characters :) and that's why the theme is what it is, so we'd like to see X's. This in no way says that we feel features are more significant, more important, can contribute more to the MUX. It just means that we would like to see these characters around.

Having powers that integrate successfully into the MUX is very much for the players own benefit. Disruptive or unfair or wholly unmanageable or confusing or inconsistent powers will not only make the character difficult to play effectively, but it'll also discourage others from interacting with him/her.

Additional information can be accessed on the MUX in 'news charguide'. Descriptions of the three types of characters, Features, Non-Features, and Humans, are below.

Feature
Characters
A feature character is a character who has an officially comic-book history before the continuity break for the MUX. To obtain a feature character, complete the application in full and e-mail it to gryffon@mserv1.sgeinc.com, including 'FC: <name of character>' in the subject of the letter.
Non-Feature
Characters
A non-feature character is a character which does not appear in any book before the continuity breaks. There are two types non-feature characters (NFC's). The first sort is the sort which you yourself create, an original character. In these instances, the more original the better. The second sort of NFC is a character which does appear in books -post- continuity. For example, with respect to our timeline, Bishop and Gambit would both count as NFC's.

We will accept post-continuity NFC applications. However, we will be looking for applications which attempt to incorporate these characters into the spirit of our timeline. We chose this continuity break for a number of factors, and as such, we shall hold post-continuity NFC's to high standards. The manner in which you try to integrate the character into MUX continuity must be unique and creative, and successfully merge with the present continuity of the MUX.

Originality is entirely encouraged; we couldn't stress this enough with respect to NFC applications. We do not want clones and copies of other characters in general.

To apply for an NFC, complete the application in full, and mail the completed application to gryffon@mserv1.sgeinc.com with 'NFC: <name of character>' in the subject of the letter.

Human
Characters
Mutants! Mutants! Mutants! This place is crawling with mutants! (In some cases literally.) What does a person have to do to simply run into a normal person? Well, now that you mentioned it.....

Humans are what make the world go around. Pure and simple, humans decide the direction the world takes. When there are around five billion of them, they're kind of hard to ignore. Humans are vital to the life of the MUX. We are trying to emulate some form of reality (although a bit spiced up), and to do that we need humans. In the Marvel Universe, humans are the majority. We'd love for that to be the case on this MUX as well. Humans are often more interesting characters than your generic mutant. After all, humans don't have flashy powers to fall back on.

A few sections of the application can be omitted for human characters which are not Feature Charactes -- A human character doesn't need to have the Powers, Siege Perilous, or Availability sections filled out. The personality and background sections can be more general, and less specific if you want.

Once you've filled out the application, email it to gryffon@mserv1.sgeinc.com with the subject HC: <character name>. Please include this subject header so the application can be processed quickly and efficiently. However, if you wish to play a Feature Human, that character would count as an Feature Character and must be applied for as such.
